Moisturising and suitable for any skin type, shea butter is a nutrient-packed natural ingredient. Found in the shea tree’s seed, it’s a versatile powerhouse used in skincare and cooking. Akoma shea butter is hand processed and sourced from Fair Trade cooperatives in Ghana. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and certified Cosmos Natural.   

What is shea butter?

Derived from the fat of the shea seed, shea butter is a natural emollient. It works by soothing and hydrating the skin, and because it’s rich in linoleic acid and oleic acid it’s easily absorbed as opposed to feeling oily or caking. Authentic, raw shea butter has a strong, earthy, nutty smell. It can naturally vary in aroma, colour and texture by batch.

Shea butter benefits:

Organic shea butter has a whole list of benefits. It’s an antioxidant, and it includes both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agents. It also encourages collagen production and cell renewal, giving it anti-ageing credentials. Many also champion it as an effective treatment for stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles.

Refined vs unrefined shea butter:

All Akoma shea butter is either raw, unrefined or refined without the use of chemicals. This means that it’s extracted and processed traditionally, as African people have been doing for centuries. That’s without toxic ingredients or other nasties. We only stock these kinds of shea butter because they retain their natural benefits, and don’t include any harmful additives such as petroleum or hexane.
