SUGGESTED USE & BENEFITS
Lemongrass is a fast-growing aromatic herb that is thought to be native to India but is now cultivated around the globe. The essential oil is steam distilled from the dried grass.
Its cleansing and astringent qualities, combined with a gently stimulating, refreshing scent, make lemongrass a popular and effective ingredient in skincare preparations and in bath and body oil.
The oil can also be applied topically in massage blends for its analgesic effects on aching muscles, back, and feet. At the same time, the circulatory system will be supported by the stimulating properties of the lemongrass. Like many other oils, lemongrass has many constituents that work together synergistically to produce a multitude of benefits.
This means the recipient can benefit from the stimulating or the sedative qualities of the oil, depending on what they need. This is the harmonious paradox of essential oil such as lemongrass, in that it has the ability to increase mental acuity or calm and soothe.
Like many plants that have evolved and survived over millennia, lemongrass has developed natural chemicals that have enabled it to survive and outwit viruses, giving it bactericide, fungicide, and insecticide qualities from which the human user can benefit.
To cool and refresh during hot weather, or to treat perspiration, four drops can be added to 2oz of distilled water, along with 6 drops of lavender and one drop of clary sage. This refreshing tonic can be applied using a cold compress or a spritzer bottle (keep eyes closed if spraying near the face).
