Organic
Organic
Through using traditional farming methods, and respecting the natural ecosystem, many of Akoma’s products are organic. Several of these, such as our raw shea butter and virgin organic coconut oil, are certified organic by the Soil Association. Others, like our lip balms and herbal teas, are made with organic ingredients and recipes.
We’re keen to help spread the word on the importance of organic farming and processing. We believe that working in harmony with nature and the environment is the way to get the highest quality products, so it’s good for the land, and it’s good for you.
The Soil Association
The UK's ‘leading membership charity campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable food, farming and land use’ is The Soil Association, founded in 1946 by a group of farmers, scientists and nutritionists. It employs certification inspectors across the country.
Certification is done by is a subsidiary of the charity, Soil Association Certification. Any product sold as ‘organic’ must comply with strict rules set at UK, European and international levels. These rules (known as standards) assure consumers they are buying genuinely organic products that can be fully traceable back to the farm.
Organic standards cover all aspects of organic food certification including production and packaging, animal welfare, wildlife conservation, and ban unnecessary and harmful food additives in organic processed foods. Standards have also been developed for areas including conservation, fish farming, textiles and health and beauty care products. Licensed farms and businesses are inspected at least once a year.

The EU organic farming logo
Some of our products are certified food grade, ie our raw shea butter. If you see this symbol against any of our products, it means that the products are food grade.
The EU organic farming logo offers consumers confidence about the origins and qualities of their food and drink and its presence on any product ensures compliance with the EU organic farming regulation.
